My Dad left school when he was 13 and lived in the middle of a forest with a bunch of men working a sawmill. It was wartime and labour was difficult to get, so Dad became a “man” at 13. Over the years he told me many stories of steam engines, drunk possums and delivering timber with draught horses up long dirt roads. He’s 82 now and suffering from dimentia, so I take opportunities to retell him his stories. He he enjoys it immensely and the tales often trigger other memories for him.

Well said, Sheryl. I think that those who invite tend to get invited. Something to think about if one wants more friends/connections. I also think it took a lot of courage for you to put on a party in a new community. There’s always the fear that no one will come. Your example shows that is most often not the outcome.

I think that’s really common, Mike. That happens with me too. I will remain in a situation for awhile even beyond when I know I need change. It has to get real uncomfortable sometimes. Then, down the road, we wonder why we waited so long or why we didn’t see things more clearly then.

Well said, Sheryl. And I like the idea that in order to embrace change, sometimes the “now” has to get uncomfortable. Actually, I don’t like it so much, but that seems to be my experience. Then, after a while – maybe a long time – I come to see that the change was good, much preferable to what I had before.

We all have areas where we struggle with being stuck. My hope is that we can all work on some area individual area while we take this journey together, which will give us some momentum, courage and accountability.

Looking forward to the coming posts as I have several areas where I need to get unstuck. Time for change but sometimes not sure how……
